Sustainability

The Onni Group of Companies prides itself on being proactive and progressive in its sustainability practices. Future redevelopment at Lonsdale and 13th will adhere to the three tenets of sustainable development: Environmental, Social and Economic.

Environmental

The project team is fully committed to creating a green and sustainable project; one that will have minimal impact on the environment.

We intend on creating a more complete community embodying the theories of mixed use, sustainable development, and our commitment to three key principles: Quality of Life, Sustainability and Public Open Spaces. All new residential units within the Rezoning Application are proposed to meet LEED Gold equivalency, similar to Onni’s latest Yaletown development”The Mark”.

This development will also tie into the Lonsdale Energy Corporation(LEC) system. Onni will work with LEC to incorporate its own on-site LEC miniplant , which will service other developments in the Central Lonsdale corridor.

Onni will also work with the City of North Vancouver to improve pedestrian experience on the site, by providing two thoroughfares. One will enhance the existing North South Lane, and the other  will connect 13th Street directly with  Stella Jo Dean Park. Onni will be enlarging and enhancing  Stella Jo Dean Park, and the surrounding 13th and Lonsdale streetscape. Rain water gardens, special paving and landscaping will complement the extensive green roof and podium of this new development.

Onni will strive to set a new standard of sustainable building practices in the City of North Vancouver, creating the ‘greenest’ mixed use development in the city.  Onni will be working with Lighthouse Sustainable Building Centre to achieve our sustainable goals on the 1308 Lonsdale project.

Social

The Onni Group of Companies continues to pride itself on being an active member of the communities in which it conducts development. Onni proudly donates to and sponsors numerous charitable foundations and community-focused organizations. Beyond donations and sponsorships, the rezoning of Lonsdale and 13th will provide a wide mix in variety and size of housing allowing for an assortment of socio-economic demographics within the community.

Onni is a proud member of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, and a sponsor of the Lonsdale Summer Party at the Pier, aswell as the Chritmas By the Sea festival.

Economic

Thousands of temporary construction & consulting jobs will be created over the multi-year development timeline. Income from these jobs filters into the community through basic daily consumption of goods and services. Hundreds more direct long-term jobs will be created by the commercial component of this development.  Moreover, an increased tax base will result from the additional and larger commercial component. The creation of thousands of jobs, which will allow residents to work where they live and attract many more businesses and residents to the North Shore, will contribute to the sustainable economic growth of North Vancouver.

We firmly believe community involvement is a necessary aspect of all sustainability plans and to this end, we hope you will provide your comments and feedback.
